Exploring Future Collaboration in the ICT Sector at GJU

On Thursday 14th of December 2017, Senior Advisor Dr Markus Krerber, at GFT company in Germany and Chair of the Managers at the kingdom investment group in Amman Mr. Thabet Elwir, met with President of German Jordanian University (GJU) Prof. Manar Fayyad to discuss possible future collaboration in the information and communication technology (ICT) sector. 

In the meeting that was attended by the Vice Dean of the School of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology (SEEIT) Dr. Raed Mesleh several fruitful outcomes resulted, including the support of GFT to arrange for several internships for GJU students at German companies working in the ICT sector. Also, discussion of possible research collaboration and future investments in the field of ICT business were conducted. 

It's worthy to mention that GFT offers a consulting and tailoring ICT solutions for the financial services industry in Europe and globally.

 

 

 


Graduation of the Ninth Batch of the MBA Students at GJU

On Saturday 16th of December 2017, Under the Patronage of Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the German Jordanian University (GJU), Engineer Othman Bdier, The Graduate School of Business Administration (GSBA) celebrated the graduation of the ninth batch of the MBA students at King Hussein Business Park.

In the ceremony that was attended by the president of GJU Prof. Manar Fayyad, Members of GJU’s Board of Trustees and Director of Accreditation and Quality Assurance Commotion for Higher Education Institutions Dr. Bashir AlZu’bi, Bdair valued GJU’s achievements in the field of applied education, acknowledging Germans’ role in its progress and prosperity.

He also stressed the importance of the business sector as it intersects with all disciplines and ensures its success, noting the need to focus on technology in management to keep abreast of development, the competent of employees, as well as to learn from others methods of work in different countries.

President of GJU Prof. Manar Fayyad congratulated the graduates and their families on their efforts and hard work, which enabled them to obtain a degree they deserve, stressing that obtaining a master's degree is a cornerstone and a solid foundation for a thriving future.

She added that the practical life may be full of difficulties and challenges however, the study at GJU qualifies the students and equip them with the appropriate skills to meet the challenges to play an effective role in building the country's economy within integrity and ethical standards and the visions of His Majesty King Abdullah II to overcome economic obstacles.

On behalf of the graduates, student Haneen Dababneh delivered a speech in which she said that achieving success is not impossible when professional guidance and hard work exist.

At the end of the ceremony certificates were handed over to the graduates, besides honoring the top of the batch and the school’s Dean Dr. Majdy Zuriekat.

It gives me a great pleasure to welcome you at the School of Management and Logistic Sciences (SMLS). Following the applied-education model of the German Jordanian University (GJU), we are proud to offer a unique and high quality international education and real diverse learning experiences for our students.

During the German year, our students are given the opportunity to study at one of our 36 German partner universities to prepare and make them ready to apply for internships at companies in Germany. Eventually, students will learn from theory and practice and acquire distinct intercultural skills within a spectrum from local to international perspectives.

The study plans of our three undergraduate programs; Management Sciences, Logistic Sciences and International Accounting, are designed and periodically revisited to equip students with the up-to-date competencies that are expected by employers.

Our high caliber academic staff are determined to support our graduates to increase their competitiveness in the international job market and boost their entrepreneurial capabilities in today’s global business environment.

A Workshop on "Waste Management in Refugee- Receiving Communities" at GJU

On Thursday 14th of December 2017, The School of Natural Resources Engineering and Management (SNREM) at the German-Jordanian University (GJU), organized a workshop on "Waste Management in Refugee- Receiving Communities" with the participation of a number of Jordanian public universities, German universities, local companies and industries, Jordanian ministries and the Greater Amman Municipality, supported by GIZ.

In her speech, the president of GJU Prof. Manar Fayyad said that GJU focuses on  applied education and research that is closely related to the current problems and challenges facing our societies such as the refugees problem, which has affected Jordan, neighboring countries and Europe greatly and caused lots of pressures including natural resources.

She added that waste generation is an important issue and needs more attention, especially with regard to its management.

She pointed out that the workshop will focus on how to transform waste into useful energy which requires research, capacity building and cooperation between universities, partners and all concerned parties.

The Dean of (SNREM), Dr. Munjid Al Shareef, said that the overall objectives of the project are to promote sustainable waste management through capacity building and to develop the ability to analyze recyclables after the initial waste treatment for further reuse.

He added that the representatives of German universities will visit the GIZ in Amman and the participating Jordanian universities : Mutah University, the University of Science and Technology and the University of Jordan to coordinate the activities associated with the project and meet with university professors to learn about teaching methods and scientific research, in addition to visiting the targeted project areas, companies and ministries.

It is worthy to mention that the project will include several practical and academic issues, including the development of concepts for integration of waste management in existing bachelor and master programs, Analysis of cooperation on an academic level with application relevance and research to study the labor market and its needs in waste management areas.

Workshop on "Technical Writing" at GJU

Amman- 20 December 2017

On Thursday 14th of December 2017, The Electronic and Electrical Engineering (EEIT) club at the German-Jordanian University (GJU), organized a workshop on "Technical Writing" conducted by Dr. Murad Samshouri.

Dr. Samhouri explained that the aim of the workshop is to teach students how to write efficiently, provide useful reports, determine the purpose of writing and target audience, stressing the importance of distinguishing possible gaps in targeted audiences such as the extent of knowledge, abilities and interests.

He specified general elements to focus on while writing any document like clarity, coherence, directness, and the use of efficient wording.

The topics of the workshop included practical applications in writing business reports, e-mail, memos, business presentations, tables and charts, besides teaching the students the necessary skills to deliver presentations successfully.

GJU Students Win the Annual Industrial Graduation Projects Competition

The German Jordanian University (GJU) won in the Annual Industrial Graduation Projects Competition that was organized by the Jordan Engineer Association (JEA) and Amman Chamber of Industry (ACI).

Students Tareq Mohammad Abu-alrub and Mohammad Yasser Almalla won the first prize for “Energy Audit on Building C of the GJU” project.

The project that was supervised by Prof. Ismael Al-Hinti, included conducting a detailed energy audit of Building C at the GJU campus, with the aim of understanding how energy is consumed in the building and to assess the energy saving potentials. The audit focused on both conservation measures related to management procedures, and efficiency measures related to technology upgrade and replacement. The audit recommended that over 280,000 kWh can be saved annually in building C with minimum investments. 

Whereas students Karam Masadeh and Mohammad Abu Obeid and their supervisor, Dr. Ziad Abuelrub from the Pharmaceutical and Chemical Engineering Department, School of Applied Medical Sciences (SAMS), won the second prize among the projects conducted in the chemical industries in Jordan.

The graduation project has the title “Technical and Economic Evaluation for a PV-Assisted Evaporation Wastewater Treatment Facility at ARAL Plant”. A treatment unit following the anodizing process was designed in order to reduce the contaminants to the allowed limits.

This project was conducted under the supervision of Eng. Azmi Mubarak from ARAL Plant and in coordination with (ACI) and (JEA).  

On another hand student Osama Deeb and his supervisor, Prof. Ala’aldeen Al-Halhouli won the third prize for the project entitled “Development of Autonomous Micro-robots”.

Micro-robots are currently an attractive field for researchers, especially in the area of health care and biomedical applications. The project aims at fabricating and controlling micro scale robots using weak magnetic field.

The general idea of the control is that the robot contains a ferromagnetic martial that allows it to interact with the magnetic field. By developing an exclusive closed loop control system, it was possible to make robots autonomous and for feedback system, an image processing was used along with MATLAB software to detect the robot position at a certain time. 

 

 

Kick-off meeting German as a foreign language “DaF” at the German Jordanian University (GJU)

On Sunday 17th and Monday 18th of December 2017, the German Language Center (GLC) and the School of Applied Humanities and Languages (SAHL) organized the first network meeting for “German as a Foreign Language/Deutsch als Fremdsprache (DaF)” with great success. 

The kick-off meeting was hosted by the network heads Prof. Karin Kleppin (Ruhr Universitaet Bochum) and Dr. Dorothea Jecht (GLC, GJU) inviting ten high-ranking German professors and experts under the patronage of Dr. Jaime Sperberg, cultural attache of the German Embassy and Gabriele von Fircks, head of the DAAD office in Amman.

During the network meeting that was attended by professors for German studies, heads of language centers and the director of the TestDaF institute Dr. Achim Althaus, the participants were given presentations on GJU, the German Language Center and the Master DaF study program at GJU.

The network members jointly worked out fields of cooperation in terms of further developing and strengthening the German language competence and teaching methods at GJU.

The workshop was followed by the “8th German teacher day” at the Modern Language Center Amman, organized jointly by Goethe Institut and GJU, where the experts from Germany also participated.

The experts represented the University Marburg, the University Bochum, the University of Education Freiburg, the University Bremen, the Technical University of Applied Sciences Cologne, the University Kassel and the University Goettingen.

The meeting proved to be an important milestone for a fruitful future exchange with the German partners and for strengthening the German-Jordanian collaboration in language teaching and research.

 

Two Achievements for GJU Sports Teams

The female football team at German-Jordanian University (GJU) won the Champion title for the fivefold Football Championship organized by the Jordanian University Sports Federation, and the Tennis team won the first place in the table tennis competition, organized by Al-Zeitouna University.

The President of GJU, Prof. Manar Fayyad congratulated the students on their efforts which resulted in accomplishing this achievement, stressing that GJU will remain supportive of the students' initiatives, sports and extra-curricular activities.

It is noteworthy that the football tournament was attended by 12 teams from Jordanian universities. On another hand four teams participated in AL- Zeitouna University Championship for Tennis Games from universities of Petra, Zeitouna, Isra’a and GJU.

The GJU football team was represented by Hiba Al-Thahabi, Lina Al-Saheb, Rand Barakat, Lian Al-Saheb, Ban Nousa, Aegis Michel, Zain Al-Quraini, Nada Amr, Rama Momani, Sophia Hattar, Rahaf Marei, Lian Al-Naoury and Yara Al-Tawal

The GJU team for Tennis Games was represented by Abdullah Al-Husseini, Mohammed Khaddour and Justin Andrasos.


A workshop on " Non-Violent Communication among Women"

On December 18th and 19th, the Migration and Refugees Diploma students conducted a workshop entitled " Non-Violent Communication among Women", as part of their field training.

The program is supervised by the Social Work Department, School of Applied Humanities and Languages (SAHL) at German Jordanian University (GJU), under the umbrella of the Consultation and Training Centre (CTC).

The Workshop was held at JOHUD Centre, Queen Zein Al-Sharaf Institute for Development, Al Hashmi Al Shamali for a group of women from the local community, JOUD women committees and a group of Syrian women refugees.

The workshop that aimed to raising awareness amongst women on the topic of violence and also teaching women ways and methods of how to communicate with each other, their families and the society non-violently, covered topics such as: What is violence and its types, How can a conflict escalate and when, Characteristics of the intervene and when is the best stage to intervene.

The workshop enhanced the participant's communication skills through a series of activities and mental exercises in order to teach women how to handle daring situations peacefully through communication but not confrontation.

Representative of CTC, Dr. Thelal Oweis pointed out that violence phenomenon has been escalating recently in the Arab communities, because of the political and economical crises that area is witnessing, explaining that during such a very tough stage, understanding each other in a very high level of humanity and communicating with family members and society members from heart to heart is what’s needed during such rough times.

Dr. Oweis emphasized the role played by women in society as they are the mothers who are responsible for raising up mature and good generations renouncing violence in all its shapes.

On another hand, students appreciated GJU’s great role in creating and developing programs and activities that are of great benefit to the local community.

At the end of the workshop, certificates were handed to the participants.

The German Jordanian University signed on 1 Nov 2017 a memorandum of understanding with Quds for Education. This MOU will grant access for GJU students and staff to use the Fabrication Lab (FabLAb) and Incubator facilities of ShamalStart Project located in Irbid Development zone based on a special corporate plan. This access shall contain prioritized tours for university faculties and personnel, students’ visits and attendance of prearranged training sessions on the usages of the FabLab.  Further, the ShamalStart outreach team shall obtain access to a selected number of faculties aiming to target students who may be willing to establish a commercial project in Irbid and/or Mafraq Governorates.

Workshop on “New Law of Urban and Rural Zoning and Building” at GJU

Under the patronage of President of German Jordanian University (GJU) Prof. Manar Fayyad, the Consultation and Training Center (CTC), graduated the participants in the workshop of “New Law of Urban and Rural Zoning and Building”.

The workshop that lasted for five days was organized to the employees of the Directorate of Municipals Affairs, Madaba in a form of intensive lectures on the new law that was passed in July 2017.

Representative of the Ministry of Municipals Affairs, Eng.Helwa Ghazal pointed out that the workshop aims at introducing the new law to the employees and to familiarize them with the new articles that deals with matters relating to building construction, engineering and related fields.

She explained that the workshop also focuses on contract law, commercial law, planning law, employment law and tort, clarifying that construction law covers a wide range of legal issues including contract, negligence, bonds and bonding, guarantees and sureties, liens and other security interests, tendering, construction claims, and related consultancy contracts.

At the end of the workshop, Fayyad handed out certificates to participants.

The Closing Ceremony of “Hult Prize” at GJU

The German Jordanian University (GJU) celebrated the closing ceremony of The first phase of the Hult Prize, which adopts one global goal of the United Nations Development Programme every year; that focuses on creative and pioneering ideas that serve the community through the competition of universities’ students around the world.

President of GJU Prof. Manar Fayyad said that the prize is a rich opportunity for our young people to engage in creative pioneering projects with social, economic and cultural dimensions and to move towards globalization and competitiveness with the rest of the world's youth.

She added that our Jordanian youth is creative and able to take initiatives in the areas targeted by this year's competition in collecting and generating energy to change the lives of more than ten million people in six fields: Water, Agriculture, Communication, Transportation, Education and Health.

GJU Student and Campus Director for the Hult Prize Foundation, Saja Badran said that the competition motivates young people to generate executable ideas toward changing the world that needs the youth power and energy.

Member of the prize committee at GJU, student Yasmine Abdeen, explained that the competition encourages the participants to face the global challenges including energy where Jordanian universities and their students are important sources in this field.

The National Coordinator of the Hult Prize in Jordan and Palestine, Ayman Allendi cleared that 1,000 universities around the world participated in the competition, where students are encouraged to think about building social leadership as a platform for young people to compete with their peers nationally, regionally and globally.

Allendi took the opportunity to announce the launch of the National Competition, which will be held for the first time in Jordan in the near future.

At the end of the ceremony, Fayyad distributed the prizes to the winners where students Ammar Badir, Mohammed Shammout and Khaled Daoudiyya won the first place on the “Netsia” project, while students Abdul Rahman Dawwas, Shamout, Mohammed Yakhul and Ghaid Al Rousan won the second place on the “4Wheels” project and students Haneen Thabes, Hala Graira and Dr. Walid Ziyod won the third place on “Lactuca +” project.

Fayyad also honored Jury members: The Founder and Chairman of Kanz for Information Systems Center Marwan Juma, the Director of the Energy Center at the Royal Scientific Society, Walid Juma, the Director of Energy at Ezzat Marji Company, Engineer Fadi Marji and Engineer Rasmi Hamza.

 

 

 

 

 

 

GJU Achieves 5 Stars in the National Classification of Universities

The German Jordanian University (GJU) achieved a national achievement by attaining the five-stars category in the National Classification of Universities; issued by the Accreditation and Quality Assurance for Higher Education Institution in Jordan.

The National Classification of Universities has been adopted for the first time on several dimensions; Teaching, the International Dimension, Scientific Research and the Quality of Graduates according to the labor market and international accreditation.
The President of GJU Prof. Manar Fayyad said that this national achievement is a source of pride for the GJU's academic and administrative family and students, considering it as a motivation for more achievements to remain along with the rest of the Jordanian universities a lighthouse of science, creativity and innovation.

She clarified that the employment rate among GJU’s graduates is very high, and their expertise meets the requirements of the national and Arab labor market of qualified and professional engineers, in addition to the German experience in management and industry received during the students’ stay in Germany for one year as a prerequisite for graduation.

Also, Fayyad added that the university has strong relations with the German side as it has signed more than 100 memorandums of understanding with the German universities partners and has strong relations with the German industrial sector to facilitate the students’ learning experience in Germany.

She pointed out that GJU is considered as a cultural bridge connecting Jordan to Europe through Germany, providing Jordanian youth the opportunity to interact with German and European youth to build a better future for the new generations.

She explained that GJU has always supported scientific research and motivated students and faculty members to benefit from funding opportunities from national or international research institutions, mentioning that GJU ranked the top in research funding from Jordan’s Scientific Research Fund in 2016.

Additionally, Fayyad stated that the Graduate School of Business Administration (GSBA) at GJU has obtained international accreditation from the International Credit Accreditation Foundation for Business Administration (FIBAA).

 


GJU hosts a workshop on “Developing Curricular Activities for Graduate Employability Readiness”

The British Council Jordan has conducted a second National Education Employer Dialogue workshop “Developing Curricular Activities for Graduate Employability Readiness”, in partnership with the Plymouth University and the German Jordanian University on 20 December 2017. This workshop was co-delivered by local experts from the German Jordanian University (GJU), the Higher Education Accreditation Commission and UK experts from Plymouth University, and was opened by GJU president Prof. Manar Fayyad.

The overarching objectives of this workshop were to develop employability skills in higher education curricula in Jordan, and in turn, to enhance the employability readiness of Jordanian higher education graduates. To achieve these objectives, the workshop has focused on the capacity building of academic and professional services staff in Jordan’s HEIs. Successful entrepreneurship models embedded within GJU curricula was shared with the participants to showcase the impact of employability developed curricula

Dr. Haya Al-Dajani the Associate Professor (Reader) in Entrepreneurship at Plymouth University declared that, “National Education Employer Dialogue (NEED) series emerged from the Jordanian Entrepreneurial University Programme sponsored by the British Council in Jordan.  She added that I am delighted that the German Jordanian University is hosting and leading this workshop which is the second in the NEED series.  This workshop is designed to address the capacity building of higher education academic and professional services staff, and in doing so, contributes to the enhancement of the impact and effectiveness of Jordan’s higher education sector.  It focuses on developing employability rich higher education curricula to enhance the employability readiness of Jordanian higher education graduates, and follows on from the first NEED workshop hosted by Luminus Education in Amman, in March 2017”.

The NEED series are part of British Council Project (Internationalising of Higher Education) and reflects British Council’s higher education strategies, which encourage local and international discussion and debate around higher education issues and challenges and support government policies for increased growth in employment through skills-based qualifications.

GJU delivered a special session on “Engaging Industry for Graduate Employability Readiness” in which as best practice the different units at GJU who are responsible for enhancing the collaboration with industrial partners, promoting entrepreneurship and providing job and internship opportunities for GJU graduates and students were introduced, namely the Industrial Relations Committee (IRC), the Office for Industrial Links (OIL), the Program Innovation and Entrepreneurship (PIE), and the Dual Studies Program. In addition, Mr. Hakam Abu Feilat, GM of Aqaba Logistics Village (ALV), emphasized on the benefit for both – the private sector and the university – when cooperating in applied programs like the Dual Studies.

The workshop ended with the introduction of practical tools on how in-curricula employability skills can be mapped across study programs.

Celebrating the National Day of the Arabic Language

On the occasion of the National Day of the Arabic Language which is celebrated all over the world on December 18th of each year, the GJU Consultation and Training Center received an official invitation from Philadelphia University to celebrate this special day with the Arabic Language and culture program(ALC)  instructors and students. 

The instructors were welcomed by prof. Mutaz Al Sheikh Salem, President of the university , prof. Ghassan AbdulKhaleg, Dean of the Faculty of Arts. and Dr.Yousef Rababa.  

Dr.Thelal Oweis gave a brief summary on the ALC program and emphasized the importance of learning the Arabic Language as a foreign language nowadays. 

After the ceremony ,which included speeches, plays, and a musical performance,  the students and their instructors were invited to have an orientation tour in campus. The tour included a visit to the painting workshop where the students received paintings drawn by prof.Faisal Al Omari as a souvenir of the visit.

GJU Celebrates the Graduation of Visual Rehabilitation Diploma Students

The Visual Rehabilitation Center (VTC) at the German Jordanian University(GJU), celebrated the graduation of the tenth batch of the Visual Rehabilitation Diploma students, that aims to provide specialists to deal with people with visual challenges, raise the quality of their life and increase independence in society.

The President of GJU, Prof. Manar Fayyad said that the center was established to provide examination, rehabilitation and training services for people with visual disabilities along with VTC’s employees, considering it as part of the university's mission and responsibilities towards society.

Fayyad congratulated the graduates whose specialties varied between the examiners, physical treatment, special education and psychology for their hard work to meet the requirements of the program, urging them to utilize experiences gained in their institutions and community.

VTC Director, Dr. Naseem Al-Nu’man said that visual disabilities can be rehabilitated with the necessary expertise and guidance, pointing to the center’s role in transferring knowledge and experience to trainees from outside Jordan.

From her side, lecturer Maysa Massoud presented the center’s achievements for the year 2017 in providing rehabilitation services for about 130 patients and the distribution of visual aids, in addition to launching two electronic courses in visual rehabilitation.

Graduates Danieh Jareeri from Jordan and Faythos Okafor from Nigeria valued the theoretical and practical training they received during their study, expressing their appreciation to GJU for its contribution to people with special needs, especially the category of visual disabilities and rehabilitation.

GJU Offers Condolences Over the Passing of Colleague Mu’ath Malkawi

With deepest sympathy, The German Jordanian University’s family offers its sincerest condolences on the death of colleague Mu’ath Malkawi, who passed away on Tuesday 2nd of December 2018, due to a car accident.  

 

Dear Muath,

Your body left our world but not your soul, you left us in so much pain and tears. You’ve been a true brother and friend.

Thank you for all memories you shared with us, our hearts and prayers with your whole family,  We love you and we’ll always miss you.
